Birth Photography FAQs – Everything You Need to Know Before Booking

Birth is one of the most transformative experiences of your life, and having it documented ensures you’ll have those raw, beautiful moments forever. If you’re considering hiring a birth photographer in Central Florida, but still have questions, you’re not alone! As a luxury birth and newborn photographer serving Orlando, Winter Park, and surrounding areas, I’ve worked with families to preserve their most meaningful moments.

Here are some of the most common questions I get from expecting parents about birth photography!

1. What exactly does a birth photographer do?

A birth photographer quietly and respectfully captures the story of your baby’s arrival—everything from laboring moments to the first time you meet your baby. My goal is to blend into the background and document the emotions, connections, and powerful moments of your birth.

Whether you’re birthing at home, at a birth center, or in a hospital in the Orlando area, my approach remains the same: documentary-style photography that tells your birth story with elegance and authenticity.

2. Will my photos be graphic?

Birth photography isn’t just about the actual moment of birth—it’s about the emotions, strength, and connections in the room. I always respect your comfort level and preferences. Some families want detailed crowning shots, while others prefer more modest storytelling.

3. What if my labor is really long or really fast?

I go on-call for birth clients starting at 38 weeks, meaning I’m available 24/7 to head to your birth whenever labor begins. If things move quickly, I do my best to get there as soon as possible. If labor is long, I stay in touch with your birth team so I arrive at the right time.

4. What happens if you can’t make it?

In the rare case of an emergency where I can’t attend, I have a backup birth photographer in Central Florida who is trained in birth photography and follows the same approach I do. I’ll also be in touch with you and your birth team throughout the process to ensure we make a plan if needed.

5. What if I’m giving birth at home or a birth center?

Perfect! I specialize in home birth photography and birth center photography. Whether you’re delivering at home in Winter Park, a birth center in Orlando, or anywhere in Central Florida, I provide the same quiet, documentary-style storytelling that honors your birth space.

6. Will the camera distract me while I’m in labor?

Most parents don’t even notice me in the room! I work with natural light, avoid using flash unless absolutely necessary, and move around as unobtrusively as possible. My goal is for you to be fully present in your birth while I document it for you.

7. What if I need a C-section?

Each hospital has its own policies on photographers in the OR. If your provider allows it, I will absolutely capture those moments for you. If not, I will still document the moments before and after, including baby’s first breath, first skin-to-skin, and your first moments together as a family.

8. What if my birth happens in the middle of the night?

Birth is unpredictable, which is why I go on-call 24/7 starting at 38 weeks. Whether it’s 2 PM or 2 AM, I’m ready to head to you when labor begins.

9. What if I don’t look “good” during birth?

Birth is raw, real, and powerful. My job is to capture it beautifully while honoring your comfort level. You won’t see photos of you in unflattering angles—just the strength, love, and beauty of your story.

10. When should I book my birth photographer?

I recommend booking as early as possible, ideally in your second trimester. Since I take a limited number of birth clients per month to ensure I’m available when needed, spots can fill quickly!
